Underworld: Blood War

I first fell in love with the Underworld universe and the Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) in the first Underworld movie in 2003. Geesh, it’s hard to believe it’s been that long but I digress. If you haven’t seen the other Underworld movies, it may help a little to do so but it’s not necessary. They give you enough in the beginning and throughout to catch up on what’s going on in Blood Wars.

I’ve seen some reviews around the web that weren’t so good. I truly don’t understand this. I suppose, you can’t please everyone, no matter how good a movie is, there will always be those who have something bad to say. Or perhaps it’s because some people still can’t handle a female director at the helm of an action film… I say this because a lot of the bad reviews specifically mentioned the director being more suited for softer projects. Whatever, dudes, this is the 21st Century, it’s time to get a grip on reality and a little enlightenment. Anna Foerster did a fantastic job directing. She proved boys aren’t the only ones who can make kick ass action films with an actual storyline woven in to give it depth.

Personally, I loved Blood Wars and it’s by far my favorite. I’d rather not give any spoilers for those who haven’t already seen the movie but I will say Kate did an excellent job reprising her role as Selene. We got to see a deeper version of Selene, something I appreciated. I also loved that we get to learn more about David (Theo James) and his true purpose. There are some twists and turns, and some nice surprises which I believe any true fan can appreciate.

To round things out, I believe a lot of room was left for so much more to be explored within the Underworld realm. But if this were the last; this film gives us a perfect ending.
